Howard Oates / Biography

A vast bookshelf of vivid yellow magazines that i would secretly leaf through like top-secret files.. that's what ignited my fascination with photography as a young boy from York.

My grandad's collection of National Geographic Magazines disappeared without trace, but my passion for photography stayed with me and flourished.

Dreams of travelling the world, capturing the depth and diversity of nature, people and culture where put on hold for the real world. The next 12 years was embraced by a very successful career in Graphic/Design & IT before i finally asked myself "what do I really want?"

The answer was life changing and 4 years on, i have never looked back!

Utilising my existing skills as a designer, a retoucher and picture editor, i found that i quickly developed a photographic style that was commercially strong. Within 6 months, i was shooting for the national papers and magazines.

Cutting my teeth working on hundreds of freelance location and studio assignments was a fantastic experience, but i was on a personal journey and wanted to explore even more.

After a wild and wonderful year long stock photographic trip around Europe in a camper van, I returned to my beloved Cornwall in june 2012 with a clear ambition of setting up a studio and taking my portrait, fashion and stock photography to the next level.

Exposia Photography Studio opens in January 2012 ready for the next challenge!
